Senior Tax Associate

Location: Westwood, MA, on site 5 days a week

Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Tax Associate to join our team. This role will involve preparing and reviewing individual and business tax returns, supporting tax planning initiatives, and providing guidance to junior staff. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, communicates well with clients, and thrives in a smaller firm environment where they can wear multiple hats and grow professionally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review complex individual (1040) and business (1120, 1120S, 1065) tax returns.
  • Conduct tax research and stay current on federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Support clients with tax planning and year-round advisory services.
  • Review work prepared by junior team members and provide guidance.
  • Maintain and foster positive client relationships through regular communication.
  • Assist in preparing financial statements and overseeing bookkeeping tasks as needed.
  • Collaborate with team members on special projects and process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
  • CPA/EA license (or in progress) preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in public accounting, with a strong focus on tax
  • Strong technical knowledge of federal and state tax laws.
  • Proficiency with tax preparation software preferably CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx Planner, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. tax code and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Tax Manager

Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Tax Manager to join our team. This leadership position will be responsible for preparing and reviewing complex tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts, as well as managing client relationships and mentoring junior staff. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise, effective communication skills, and a proactive approach to client service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review complex federal and state income tax returns (individual, corporate, partnership, and fiduciary).
  • Complete projections and tax planning for both individuals & business owner clients.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of staff-prepared returns and provide constructive feedback and training.
  • Research complex tax issues and provide well-supported tax planning strategies and solutions.
  • Manage multiple client engagements, ensuring deadlines and compliance standards are met.
  • Communicate directly with clients to resolve questions, provide updates, and deliver value-added advice.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and assess their impact on clients.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of firm policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Support business development efforts through client referrals and relationship building.

Qualifications

  • CPA license required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field; Master’s in Taxation preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting or similar tax office.
  • Strong technical knowledge of federal and state tax laws.
  • Proficiency with tax preparation software preferably CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx Planner, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Staff Accountant

Location: Westwood, MA

Simon CPAs, a CPA firm specializing in payroll, bookkeeping and tax returns for individuals and small businesses is looking for a Staff Accountants to join our growing business. This position is a full time position.

The ideal candidate will have the following experience:

  • 1-3 years of experience as an accountant or bookkeeper working with small businesses.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting methods, principles and practices.
  • Aptitude in Quick Books and Microsoft Office required.
  • Tax experience preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communications with a client focus.
  • Bachelor or Graduate degree in accounting preferred.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Review and oversee client’s accounting process through management of client’s QuickBooks, making/adjusting journal entries and preparing corporate tax returns.
  2. Prepare monthly/yearly profit and loss statements as well as prepare balance sheets for corporate tax returns.
  3. Work with clients to better understand their business to correct financial statements.
  4. Prepare corporate partnership and estate/trust tax returns.
  5. Other misc. projects as needed

Ideally, the intern candidate would join Simon CPAs full time after graduation with plans to pass the CPA or EA exams.

  • Assist in organizing and maintaining client records, including tax documentation and payroll files.

  • Gain exposure to accounting software and tools used in tax preparation and payroll services.
